Final Animatic

So here is the final Animatic for the raindrop world.

Hopefully the final product gets a positive review.

Own Footage

Here is the video footage of the ink and spray paint testers in water. These will be used as background and editable footage for the group animatic. I was again pleased with the results of the inks.

Ink in the Sink!

These are the still images from my experiments with the inks and spray paint in the water. As you can see from the images below the inks all reacted differently when introduced by different methods. The transparentsy differed as well as the tones in the water.

Blue ink was the primary ink used then black as the secondary colour. As time went on more blue ink was added to see how the colour would dilute through the water. After the water had almost turned blue I then added black. From the black being added it reminded me of a galaxy rather than the sea. Although this was a different outcome that expected I found it to be a useful outcome as it adds to the whole idea of ‘a different world’.

Can the sky be the sea and can the sea be the sky?

I found this to be a fun experiment to work on and in the end beneficial for the project and for general appearance.

This video was an example of the motion i wanted to have in my work for the animatics. I also simply loved the video. the simplistic shapes in the video are done to a great standard.

`i think this is a good example of time and motion in a video. Again a good source of inspiration to begin the project with.

Joel Kefali

Here are some of the 2d work that Joel Kebali has created for the band ‘`The Naked and Famous’. These are the type of images in which i would in a similar manner to. I looked at these for a sense of inspiration as they reminded me of the style of work i would want to create for the animation briefs ahead.

Although the work for the animatic may not be the same, his work was a good starting point to plan my work accordingly.

Time and Motion

Below are some links to show the director Joel Kefali. He was an inspiration to  me due to his style of editing and quirky narratives in his videos. I originally found out about him due to the band ‘The Naked and Famous’. They’re music videos were always of interest to me.

The style of editing was a drawing point to the director and the strange narratives made me want to look into him further and by doing so he was of inspiration to the animatic I made for the time and motion section of build a world.

The Board of Stories…

Here is our narrative and storyboard plan for the ‘Raindrop World’.

A basic summary of the narrative is the opposing ‘clans’ that exist in the world are in an on going feud. The two clans are split into two groups. One group have evolved from a more fish and amphibian background. While the others are of a more human origin.

The clan in which are described as ‘mermaids’ can be seen in the storyboard to be going about their own daily lives. A shot of one of their small cities can be seen. But without them knowing a mechanical device is slowly dropped within the boarders of the city. The calm environment is ruined. Anyone within the area of this device is caught in the blast radius.

After the  water calms the city is left in smoke and rubble. The next shot then moves to these shark hybrids. Robotic sharks were one of the first creations by the humanoid clan. They had sent the sharks into the city with the one purpose to destroy it.

The last shot of the sharks is them swimming into a cave. Once the enter it, it closes itself  shut. From this shot it progressively zooms out from the black screen. Once finished zooming out you can see a raindrop appear.

The raindrop is simply falling from the sky and the splashes onto the ground. Beside that raindrop is hundred’s more. Is that the raindrop to have life in it?

Storyboard Doodles

These are some of my sketchbook pages where I was experimenting with possible narratives and styles. On some of the pages you can see some rough sketches and some watercolour and inks used to fit in with the water theme within the world.

Some of the colour contrast on the black and white I found to be a nice idea to work on. Some possible ideas to develop this could be photography and film?

School of fish…

While working on the Raindrop World I decided to download Sculptris to experiment with character modelling. Since there is two clans within the world, one being more fished based and the other being of a more human origin.

This are some examples of creatures that are of the fish based clan. While modelling these I focused on the grab and inflate tool. These are how I made the characters have fins or tails. This was just an experiment of working in 3d.
